Telangana Health Minister Etala Rajender today appealed to the people to avoid fearing a Coronavirus outbreak.
Talking to mediapersons along with officials after a review on the possibility of the virus spreading and over the steps needed to check it, Rajender asserted that the government was ready to tackle the situation and had set up special wards to check the problem, and said that the social media should not create a panic.
"There is no need for fear as the three main government hospitals are geared up to tackle the virus," he said.
A health team from Delhi had arrived in town and was visiting the main hospitals and supervising the setting up of labs there, Rajender said. It was also giving information to the doctors on coronavirus, the medicines to be used and the preventive measures to be taken to avoid it spreading. The government had already set up special wards in this regard at Fever, Osmania, Gandhi, Chest and other hospitals, he added.
He also asked the people to maintain cleanliness at home and personal hygiene.
Meanwhile, with lakhs of devotees expected to take part in the biennial event, the health authorities have taken up several steps to prevent the spread of infections during the Sammakka Sarakka Jathara at Medaram in Mulugu district.
Referring to the event, the minister said, "We have tried our best to learn from the past mistakes and tighten the gaps and loopholes this time. We have established a dedicated 50-bed hospital for the devotees. Moreover, all the nearby public health care institutions including those at Mulugu, Kamalapura and Bhupalpally will be open and working around the clock to receive patients. We also have adequate medicines for all kinds of infections."
