Reacting to the rising dengue casualties across Telangana, especially in 13 villages in the Khammam district, the Telangana government today directed its officials to prevent the spread of the viral fever and other contagious diseases in the State.
Amid rising cases of the disease and public outcry, Telangana Health Minister C Lakshma Reddy held a high-level review meeting today at the Secretariat and took stock of the situation.
He directed health officials to take immediate measures to contain the spread of dengue and other viral fevers in villages of Khammam, including Bonakal, Ravinuthala and Govindapuram.
The minister reacted to media reports on dengue-related deaths and the paucity of health services in local hospitals.
Reddy asked his officials to send specialized doctors and staff from Hyderabad to attend to the patients and provide them immediate medication.
He ordered several units of diagnostic equipment to be transferred from Hyderabad to Khammam. He also called for expert research into dengue and other mosquito-related diseases to find out improved prognosis for these diseases.
The health minister also asked officials to stay put in villages and prevent a major outbreak.
The government, however, remains mum on the demands to treat the situation as an epidemic.
