Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today said the people of Telangana had given the energy to his Bharat Jodo Yatra, and that the party was in the hearts of the people of the State.
He made these remarks while addressing a mammoth public meeting of the party, Jana Garjana, held in Khammam district.
Gandhi said that he was happy to visit Telangana once again after the previous tour during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. He praised the Congress workers of the State saying that they were roaring like tigers to ensure victory of the party in the next Assembly and general elections.
He also congratulated CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarkha on the "successful completion" of the latter's padayatra, and welcomed former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy into the party "with love". He added that Khammam district is a strong bastion of the Congress, and that the district had always stood by the party.
Gandhi also gave a call to all the former leaders who had left the party for varied reasons to return to it, and told them that they should remember that the Congress would come to power in Telangana. He termed the BRS and the BJP as sinking ships, and alleged that the BRS was a B-team of the BJP. He also alleged that the BRS was causing a lot of problems to the people of the State, and said that he found about the extent of the problems of the people with the BRS rule first hand during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Gandhi also promised a Rs 4,000 pension to old-aged persons and widows immediately upon coming into power, and ownership rights to all the cultivators of podu lands.
Referring to the recent opposition parties' meeting held in Patna, he said that the parties had opposed the participation of the BRS in the meeting, and that the time of the BRS had come to an end.
