The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) launched a blistering attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for speaking "nonsense" against the BRS government during the Congress' Khammam public meeting on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference today, minister Prashanth Reddy, along with another minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP Ravichandra, Government Whip M S Prabhakar, and MLAs Gandra Venkata Veeraiah, Surender and Redya Nayak, said that he had earlier sympathised with Gandhi when the people were calling him Pappu, but had realised after listening to the Khammam speech that Gandhi truly deserved the tag.
Claiming that Gandhi didn't have even basic knowledge about Telangana and had just read out the script written by the local leaders of his party, Prashanth Reddy expressed wonder at the statement of the Congress leader that corruption worth about one lakh crores had taken place during the execution of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
"The Kaleshwaram project has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 80,000 crore. Where then is there any chance that there can be corruption of Rs 1 lakh crore in it?" the minister asked.
He also found fault with Gandhi for making a Rs 4,000 pension promise, and asked him why the same pension was not being implemented in the Congress-ruled States.
He pointed out that in Chhattisgarh the old age pension was Rs 500, in Rajasthan Rs 750 and in Himachal Pradesh Rs 1,250.
"Rahul Gandhi should first implement a pension of Rs 4,000 in the Congress-ruled States, and then promise that in Telangana. Only then will the people of this State believe his words," Reddy said.
Terming Congress leaders as opportunists, Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said that leaders who were defeated by the people in the election had joined the party in Khammam district, and that the people of the State were not naive enough to believe their false promises.
