Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today lashed out at the ruling BRS government over "huge corruption" in the Kaleswaram project.
He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his family were using the Kaleswaram project as their personal ATM.
He also said that the project was marred by poor construction, with many pillars of the Medigadda barrage developing cracks most recently.
Gandhi visited barrage this morning. The police deployed at the project had not allowed him to visit the project earlier. Finally, on the request of the Congress rank and file, the police gave permission for an aerial survey. Following this, Gandhi inspected the barrage.
After his visit to the barrage, Gandhi tweeted on his official Twitter (now X). "Kaleswaram project = KCR's family's ATM. I visited the Medigadda barrage today. This is a part of the corruption-ridden Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Scheme in Telangana. Many pillars have developed cracks due to poor construction. There have been reports of pillars getting depressed. CM KCR and his family are using Kaleshwaram project as their personal ATM to loot the people of Telangana," Gandhi wrote.
Before his visit to Medigadda, Gandhi participated in the Ambatpally Congress Women's Conference. Speaking on the occasion, he said, "In the name of the construction of the Kaleshwaram project, the BRS government has indulged in a lot of corruption. The corruption was exposed by the depression of the Medigadda barrage pillars. If the entire money allocated for the project had been spent on its construction, there would not have been such a depression. Half of the Rs 1 lakh crore allocated for the project was looted. The pillars of the barrage have caved in due to poor construction."
He also alleged that the BJP, the BRS and the MIM were on one side in Telangana and the Congress was on the other. He said that the main contest was between the BRS and the Congress, and that the BJP and the MIM were supporting the BRS. He appealed to the people to give their full support to the Congress in the elections and bring down the BRS government.
He also reiterated that women would be provided free travel in RTC buses once the Congress returned to power.
