TRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao this afternoon slammed the state police and the government for trying to stop students from making it to the
Telangana Vidyarthi Garjana at Osmania University.
KCR said that over 1,00,000 students were stopped irrationally by the police at various points in the Telangana districts from making it to the Garjana, and that they had photos and videos of this being done, which they would use to file cases against the police officers concerned since it amounted to contempt of court.
The AP High Court, while allowing the meeting today that was earlier disallowed by the government, instructed the police that only students would be allowed. The police had been asking students to show their identity cards, and in this process claimed that several "students" were disallowed due to lack of identification.
KCR said that the students had to even cook on the roads after they were blocked on their way from going any further, and resorted to rasta rokos to express their protest. Students who set out in buses were stopped by the police, especially at
Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Medak, and this resulted in their agitating in the form of rasta rokos on the National Highway, most notably at Suryapet.
KCR said that the DGP and the CM should apologize to Telangana students for this action, and that they had no respect even for the High Court instructions. He said that he and his party colleagues had all refrained from going to the Garjana today out of respect for the HC's orders disallowing politicians at the meeting.
KCR left for New Delhi after making these comments today, for the Jan 5 meeting, where he and Jayshankar, the Telangana ideologue, will represent the TRS. He said that he would meet the PM and several other important leaders like Laloo and Pawar in New Delhi, and claimed that January 5 will see several parties emerge in their true colours.
