TITA Opposes Power Reduction For T
The Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) condemns the government's ordinance to reduce Telangana's share of power from the Central Generating Stations
The Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) has strongly condemned the Indian government's proposed ordinance on the reduction of Telangana's share from the Central Generating Stations (CGS), and on the merging of the seven mandals of the Khammam district - a district where the Lower Sileru Hydro Electric Power Project is situated - with Seemandhra.
The TITA had sent a letter to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, requesting him to revoke the decision of this proposed ordinance.
"The government of India is contemplating to bring in an ordinance which will merge all the villages in the seven mandals, both submerged and non-submerged, with Seemandhra, in the name of fulfilling the requirement for "Rehabilitation and Resettlement".
"Telangana will thus end up losing the Lower Sileru Hydro Electric Power Project located in the Chintoor Mandal, as the region is being transferred over to Seemandhra. Around 1000 to 1500 million units of energy is being generated from the Lower Sileru Hydro Electric Power Project every year, and it is the cheapest source of energy for Telangana.
"If this project is taken away from Telangana, it will be a great loss to the state which is already facing huge power shortages,? said Sundeep Kumar Makthala, TITA founder and president.
"Item number 6 under Schedule XIII of the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014, provides for the allocation of power from the Central Generating Stations to the successor states according to the ratio based on the actual energy consumption of the last 5 years of the successor states.
"However, it has been learnt that the government is now proposing to change this criterion from 'actual energy consumption' to 'population ratio'. This change is highly irrational and would result in a significant reduction in Telangana's share of the power generated in the CGS," said Makthala. (INN)
