Describing Sonia Gandhi as "Telangana Talli", senior Congress leaders, on Sunday, stated that the entire credit for the formation of a separate Telangana state goes to the AICC president.
Addressing a massive thanksgiving meeting at College Grounds in Kamareddy, senior leaders - including former ministers Mohammad Ali Shabbir and Sudarshan Reddy, Zaheerabad MP Suresh Kumar Shetkar and others - said that Telangana became a reality only due to the efforts of the Congress party and those of Sonia Gandhi.
Shetkar talked about the obstacles that the Congress leadership had to overcome in order to fulfill its promise of creating Telangana.
He condemned the TDP and the YSRCP for trying to obstruct the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He also alleged that the BJP too had tried to stop the passing of the Telangana bill in Rajya Sabha.
Sudarshan Reddy said that it was the Congress party which had brought about the formation of Telangana, and that only the Congress could ensure the development of the new state.
He praised Shabbir Ali for the drinking water scheme which was launched in Kamareddy on Sunday. "Over 3.34 lakhs people living in 219 drought affected villages would benefit from the scheme," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that the supply of drinking water and the creation of irrigation facilities will change the face of the entire Telangana region.
Shabbir Ali said that Congress leaders were the ones who had actually done everything possible to get a separate Telangana state.
He recalled that he had even been forced to approach the state BJP president, G Kishan Reddy, seeking the latter's support for the Telangana bill.
Shabbir Ali also listed out the schemes that were launched due to his initiative. (INN)
