Farmers Getting Restless Over Paddy Not Being Bought

The farmers of Telangana are getting angry over the delay in procurement of paddy. They are alleging that the State is not able to purchase the grain. In Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, farmers have taken to the path of protest and held a dharna. Angry over their paddy not being purchased at the government procurement centres even after a month, the farmers blocked the Hyderabad-Warangal National Highway at Gudur village in Bibinagar mandal today and staged a protest. A rasta roko was held for an hour. As a result, vehicles were stranded for kilometres on the national highway.
The farmers called off their agitation after the local Tehsildar Sridhar assured them that their grains would be bought.
Earlier in the day, tribal farmers from Pachallapadu Tanda village in Bhuvanagiri mandal staged a dharna in front of the district Collectorate demanding that their paddy be purchased. They said that they had asked the authorities several times to purchase their paddy but to no avail. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if the government did not respond and buy the paddy immediately.
