Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy today called upon the public to join hands with the state's police to help prevent the sale of spurious seeds in the state.
Speaking at a media event along with West Zone IG Stephen Ravindra, Hyderabad IG Sivasankar Reddy and Nalgonda SP A C Ranganath, he urged the public to contribute to the police's fight against adulterated seed rackets in the state.
Characterising the sale of such seeds as an "anti-farmer activity", the DGP highlighted the urgent need to check the sale and distribution of the same.
Reddy added that they had arrested a 13-member interstate gang involved in the sale of fake seeds.
"The task force of the Nalgonda police was able to nab the gang members after some farmers from the Devarakonda area filed a complaint against the gang. From the offenders, we have been able to seize 200 tonnes of spurious seeds worth Rs 6 crore. I am very happy with the success of this operation as with the bust we have been able to prevent the sale of a huge quantity of spurious seeds," he said.
The DGP then congratulated the police team involved in the operation.
This bust comes right at the heels of another one - the Suryapet police
arrested a six-member gang involved in a similar racket just days ago. The police were able to seize spurious and adulterated seeds worth Rs 13.5 crore from the possession of the accused.
