Union Health Minister and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Sunday, claimed that a final decision on the Telangana statehood issue will be announced within a month.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Azad said that a series of meetings have been lined up to discuss the issue and to come up with an amicable solution.
He said that the Centre never sidelined the Telangana issue, and that several efforts were being made to bring about co-ordination between the leaders of different regions.
Citing an instance, he said that while the Chief Minister and the PCC President were from Seemandhra regions, the Deputy Chief Minister hails from Telangana.
Azad also condemned the decision of two Congress MPs to quit the party to join the TRS. Referring to the exit of K Keshav Rao, G Vivek and Manda Jagannatham, he said that those leaders had decided to quit the Congress for the benefit of their families.
Expressing confidence that the Congress would return to power after the next elections, Azad appealed to Congress leaders from Telangana region not to make hasty moves, and to wait for the Centre's final decision. (INN)
