Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on the Party Defections case.
Hyderabad | 8th November 2016
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy welcomed the Supreme Court's decision on the Party Defections case.

Addressing a hugely attended students' rally "Vidyarthi Garjana", organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI) at Mahabubnagar on Tuesday, the TPCC chief welcomed the Supreme Court's decision to transfer the issue of the Congress and TDP MLA defections to the Constitutional Bench, and said that the verdict clearly showed that KCR was wrong in making MPs, MLAs and MLCs of other Parties defect to the TRS.

He said that the SC had rightly questioned the legality of the defections and the Assembly Speaker's sincerity in taking a decision on the issue. He expressed hoped that the Constitutional Bench would give a "game-changing" judgement against the defectors so as to prevent such "Constitutionally unviable activities" in future. By encouraging large scale defections, he said, KCR had set a wrong precedent in the new State.

Speaking to the students in the crowd on the Fee Reimbursement Scheme, The TPCC President said that the dues were not cleared by the State government despite several promises.

"This clearly shows that either Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is not serious or the State treasury has run dry," he said.

Reddy slammed the Chief Minister for not responding to the ongoing protests by lakhs of students and their parents who were demanding immediate payment of the Fee Reimbursement dues which were pending for the last two years.

The TPCC chief promised that the Congress would not rest until the State Government cleared the entire Rs. 3,000 crores due.

The meeting was also addressed by party MLAs D K Aruna, G Chinna Reddy, NSUI National President Amrita Dhwaj, TPCC Vice-President Mallu Ravi, DCC President Obaidullah Kotwal, Municipal Chairman Radha Amar and other senior leaders.
