T-Congress To Hold 10-day Agitation From Feb 19
The Telangana Congress will launch a 10-day long agitation, named "Jana Avedana Sammelanam", against the TRS government and the NDA government.
Hyderabad | 13th February 2017
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) will launch a 10-day long agitation, named "Jana Avedana Sammelanam", against the "anti-people policies" of the TRS government in the State and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
Addressing a press conference after chairing the TPCC Executive Committee extended meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy informed that the Congress would hold various agitation programs across Telangana from 19th to 28th February.
He said that the agitation was being organised as per the directives of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), and that the programs would cover all 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana.
A massive public meeting, "Jana Avedana Sabha", will be held in Nizamabad on February 19. Similar meetings will be held in the 10 old districts of Telangana, with each covering about 10 Assembly segments. Besides "exposing the failures" of the Central and the State governments, the meetings will also highlight local issues.
The TPCC chief said that the agitation was necessitated by the failure of both the State and the Central governments to resolve the problems being faced by the people.
He said that all sections of the society had been badly hit due to the demonitisation decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and that no one had gotten any respite even after three months.
He also said that the Modi government had failed to fulfill the promises that it had made to the people. As against the promise of giving 2 crore new jobs, the Central government had given jobs to only 77,000 people.
He alleged that the Prime Minister had been misleading the entire country with catchy slogans like Make In India, Skill India, Start Up India and Digital India, and that the real development process had come to a halt since the BJP-led government took over at the Centre.
Reddy said that the situation in Telangana was equally bad with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao completely neglecting development and the people's welfare.
He said that the TRS government was not addressing the real problems being faced by the people. He also alleged that it had failed to pressurise the Centre on fulfilling the promises which were made to Telangana State at the time of the bifurcation as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act - he said that the Centre did not give an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibi Nagar, an Integrated Wagon Factory at Qazipet or the required funds for an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) which were approved by the previous UPA regime.
The TPCC chief said that both Narendra Modi and KCR were making new announcements every day, but were not taking any steps to implement their promises.
He also accused them of suppressing the media from exposing the truth of the failures of their governments.
Senior leaders including ex-PCC President Ponnala Lakshmaiah, TPCC Vice-Presidents Balram Naik, D K Aruna, P Sabitha Indira Reddy and Dr. Mallu Ravi, and General Secretary Vinod Reddy were also present in the press conference.
