Telangana Congress MLAs and MLCs staged a dharna outside the premises of the Legislative Assembly on Monday demanding the State government convene an Assembly session to discuss the problems being faced by the people in the State, especially in the context of Demonetization.
The State government deployed a huge police force who contained the protest from escalating further. The irate Congress legislators had to move out and stage the agitation on the road outside the Assembly premises, and raised slogans demanding the TRS government to convene the Session immediately to address people's problems during amid the status quo.
This created commotion and panic among the agitators. Speaking to the media during the protest, Leader Of opposition in the Telangana State Assembly K Jana Reddy rapped the government for deploying its Force, claiming that a harmless protest does not call for such "extreme" measures; Reddy accused the government of dishonoring public representatives.
He said that the State was facing a lot of troubles and there was a need to address those, and that was the reason behind organizing the protest. But the government was avoiding confronting these issues and convening House.
Elaborating on the troubles, he pointed out that the demonetization of the two currency notes was creating severe inconvenience to the people. He urged the government to commence the Session.
Speaking next, TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao clarify on the reason behind not convening the House for the last nine months. While Andhra Pradesh was still united, the then government used to run the House for 52 days each year, but the present government was convening it 18 times an year.
Reddy said that the Congress would not be intimidated by the government's forces, and would only intensify its agitation in case the government failed to convene the House this time.
