Congress Takes 12% Muslim Quota Demand To Ramzan

The Minorities Department of the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee on Wednesday launched another campaign to create pressure on the TRS government to fulfill its election promise of 12% reservations for Muslims.

It printed calendars for the holy month of Ramzan with a request to the people to support the agitation for 12% Muslim quota.

The Ramzan calendars, in different sizes, contain the timings of Saher and Iftar for the observance of Roza during the month. At the bottom, an appeal has been made to the community to pray and support the campaign for 12% reservations for Muslim.

"Our earlier campaign 'One Million Yes for 12% Muslim Reservation' was a huge success. In order to maintain the momentum and pitch built, we came up with this innovative idea. These calendars will remind the entire community, at both the Saher and the Iftar times, of the promise of 12% reservation for Muslims made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during the election campaigning in 2014," said GHCC Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail.

The calendars were released by TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and TPCC Minorities Department chairman Mohammed Fakhruddin in the presence of other minority leaders at a review meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

Abdullah Sohail said pocket-size calendars were printed in large numbers so that every member of the community would carry the demand for 12% reservation for Muslims throughout the month of Ramzan. He said that the calendars would also be circulated widely on social networks.

He said that since no movement could be conducted during Ramzan as all Muslims spent their time in fasting and prayers, the Congress came up with the unique idea to strengthen the 12% campaign.

He appealed to the Muslim community to pray for victory in both the ongoing 4% Muslim reservation case in the Supreme Court and the 12% reservation agitation.
