The Telangana unit of the Congress, led by leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, today held a demonstration at Gun Park against the TRS government for allegedly not granting the members of the Opposition enough time to raise queries during the state's ongoing Budget session. They wore black towels as a mark of their displeasure.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikramarka said that they were holding the protest to condemn the attitude of the state government as it was not giving the Opposition enough time to speak in the Assembly.
The leader even said that they would submit a representation to Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy regarding their complaint, and would urge him to grant them more time to raise queries and questions, and to seek clarifications.
After paying their tributes at the Martyrs' Memorial in the park, the agitators proceeded to go on a padayatra from the park to the state's Assembly.
The issue of time allotted to leaders for speaking has been causing friction between the ruling party and various leaders of the Opposition for some time now. The third day of the ongoing Budget session saw an especially
heated exchange. An altercation was precipitated when the leaders of the Congress demanded more time to discuss various developmental matters in the Assembly. A bitter argument between the treasury benches and the leaders of the Opposition had then taken place.
BJP bigwig D K Aruna had also brought up the issue. She had alleged that the TRS government had
intentionally scheduled a short Budget session just to prevent the Opposition from discussing the issues of the people in a thorough fashion, and that it had allocated just nine days for discussion to avoid facing difficult questions.
