The Telangana Congress today staged a protest rally in Hyderabad demanding the removal of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the Union Cabinet for "insulting" Dr B R Ambedkar, the founding father of the Indian Constitution.
Led by TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, the rally proceeded from the Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund to the Hyderabad Collectorate. There, Congress leaders submitted a petition addressed to President Droupadi Murmu to the Hyderabad Collector.
MP Anil Kumar Yadav, TPCC working president Anjan Kumar Yadav, Congress leader Koppula Raju, former MP V Hanumantha Rao, DCC president Rohin Reddy and a large number of party activists participated in the rally.
Goud urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately dismiss Shah from his post.
He also accused the BJP government at the Centre of attempting to change the Constitution, claiming that Shah's derogatory remarks against Ambedkar revealed the party's true intentions.
"It is shameful that no action has been taken against Shah, but a case has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for democratically condemning the BJP's insult to Ambedkar," he said.
The TPCC president reiterated that the Congress would persist in its protest until action was taken against Shah.
