Congress leaders hailing from the Telangana region seem to finally be ready to take the "ultimate" pluge demanded by pro-Telangana activists - that of resigning from their posts.
Telangana Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs have declared that they will resign en masse on 4 July, in support of a separate Telangana.
The leaders held a meeting on Friday, which was attended by 9 MLCs, 18 MLAs, 7 MPs and 9 ministers.
Ths meeting resulted in a collective decision of the politicians to step down from their posts, to "prove that they are not hankering for power".
The Telangana Congress
delegation that had met the Congress High Command in Delhi gained no assurances about a favourable resolution of the Telangana issue, following which they had set a deadline for the High Command to take a decision.
Now, Seemandhra Congress leaders are set to go to New Delhi to press
their demands of keeping the state united, and this has irked Telangana leaders from the party, who say that the former are trying to mess with the formation of a separate state.
Ghulam Nabi Azad has responded to the Telangana Congress leaders' announcement on resignations, saying that resignations are not the answer to the burning subject.
He said opinions of both regions ought to be respected and taken into account before arriving at a solution on the sensitive Telangana issue, but stated that something will definitely be worked out.
