Congress leaders from Telangana on Sunday paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 100th birth anniversary.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao joined the party members in paying tributes to Indira Gandhi at People's Plaza.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy recounted Gandhi's visit to Hyderabad barely a few days before her assassination. The former PM had visited Old City on October 14, 1984, in the aftermath of a communal riot.
The Congress leaders also took the occasion to give a call to the party cadre to work hard and bring the Congress back to power at the Centre as well as in Telangana in the next elections.
The celebrations, however, did not pass off without incident. An ugly fight between two groups of the district Congress unit in Adilabad became the highlight of the day.
Following a disagreement between the followers of Congress members K Sujatha and Ramachandra Reddy over seat-sharing on the dais, a scuffle broke out wherein party members shoved each other and ripped each others' shirts.
All India Congress Committee Secretary (AICC) V Hanumantha Rao, who was witness to the fight, tried to pacify the members, but was forced to leave when they paid no heed to his appeals.
