Congress leader and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy, who was appointed to the post of TPCC chief some days ago, was formally sworn into office today at a program held at the Gandhi Bhavan.
An ecstatic Reddy left his residence and performed prayers at the Peddamma temple in Jubilee Hills in the presence of scores of Congress workers before attending the ceremony. Later, in a move symbolising the secular nature of the Congress, he performed prayers at the Yousufain Dargah in Nampally as well.
Further, the MP participated in a celebratory rally where the Congress cadres expressed their happiness over the appointment by bursting firecrackers while the workers of the party's Minority Cell garlanded the leader with a massive wreath.
At the ceremony, amidst thunderous applause and much cheering, the outgoing TPCC head MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy handed passed on the baton to Reddy.
Besides this, the working presidents of the party, as well as the chairpersons of different committees, were sworn in alongside the Malkajgiri MP. Party leaders took to the opportunity to also thank outgoing TPCC head Uttam Kumar Reddy for his work during the function.
Hundreds of party workers and leaders turned up for the event. Among them were state AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, and national Congress spokesperson Dasoju Sravan.
With this appointment, Uttam Kumar Reddy's tenure of almost six-and-a-half years came to an end today. It is being hoped that the new TPCC chief will revitalise the Congress in Telangana and will inspire the party's rank and file who have been left demoralised by successive electoral defeats.
