Telangana Congress leaders, for the umpteenth time, will head to New Delhi to discuss Telangana with the High Command and to "make things move".
Geeta Reddy, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, Sridhar Babu and D K Aruna are some of the Congress leaders expected to be present at the meetings scheduled for the day. The delegation will meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at 3pm, and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at 8pm. The meeting with Pranab Mukherjee will also have on board other Congress bigwigs, including MP Ahmed Patel and Rajya Sabha MP A K Antony.
Minister for Infrastructure and Ports Komatireddy Venkata Reddy has declared that this will be the "final meeting" with the Delhi durbar, but what remains to be seen is how different this session will be from the rest of the meetings by the same delegation - meeting that similarly sought a "concrete assurance" on the Telangana statehood issue.
Meanwhile, reports of the Congress considering a Gorkhaland-like model for Telangana have already set political analysts and politicians into a tizzy. The said model comprises giving certain autonomous rights to Telangana and a generous financial package, while not separating it from the rest of Andhra Pradesh.
The reports say that Sonia Gandhi in particular, and the Congress High Command in general, are all averse to the idea of a separate state for Telangana.
And any indication that a separate Telangana will not be formed - even if there are plans to constitute "regional councils" and panels for Telangana, or even to dole out financial packages to the region - is not likely to go down well with Telangana supporters. Telangana protagonists are clear about their demand for a separate state, and even a hint of grey will make them go on the offensive since to them, a grey is a compromise.
