Congress leaders of the state, including MPs and MLAs, were kept under house arrest by the police today.
The house arrests of the leaders took place in the wake of their call for a Chalo Secretariat protest program against the "burdening" of the people of the state with huge electricity bills by discoms.
The police went to the houses of TPCC president and MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP A Revanth Reddy, former MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy and others, and kept them under house arrest.
They also took party MLA and former minister D Sridhar Babu into custody at Ravindra Bharathi when he was trying to go towards the Secretariat.
The acts of the police enraged the party leaders, who claimed that it was a murder of democrary.
They also demanded that the state government immediately roll back its decision to impose huge power charges on the consumers of the state.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that KCR was ruling the state in a draconian manner. He claimed that the Congress had sought an appointment with the CM to discuss the coronavirus status, regulatory farming and the power charges, but had received no positive response.
