Telangana Congress leaders on Tuesday announced their willingness to visit New Delhi for talks on the Telangana issue with the Centre, at a meeting held at the residence of Minister K Jana Reddy.
Talking to the media persons after the meeting, Komati Reddy Rajagopal Reddy said that the leaders are expected to leave for New Delhi on Thursday morning. He said that they would tell the Centre that they are willing for the talks, and also to make it clear that they would accept nothing short of Telangana.
Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is the Congress General Secretary and In-Charge Of Andhra Pradesh Affairs, said last evening that he would convene a meeting of lawmakers from all the 3 regions.
However, he did not specify when the meeting would take place.
The Seemandhra leaders, currently on a visit to New Delhi, have told the Centre not to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. They also insisted that the Centre should immediately implement the 6th option of the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee, to keep the State united.
They had also highlighted the problems Seemandhra would face in irrigation if Telangana was carved out.
Earlier, in Hyderabad, the Telangana leaders had refused to meet Azad, due to his comments made in Beijing that a consensus and an Assembly resolution were needed for the formation of Telangana. They had said that they would not interact with Azad unless he withdrew his controversial statement. (INN)
