The Chalo Raj Bhavan program of the Congress leaders to protest against the "immoral" politics of the ruling BJP at the Centre to destabilise the Congress government in Rajasthan was foiled by the state police today.
The police cordoned off the entire headquarters of the Telangana Congress, Gandhi Bhavan, to prevent the exit of the party leaders.
Angered at this, the leaders staged a sit-in program condemning the attitude of the police.
They also raised slogans against the BJP and alleged that the saffron party was hatching a conspiracy to topple its (the Congress') government in Rajasthan.
Party MP A Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC chief V Hanumantha Rao, GHMC party president Anjan Kumar Yadav and other party leaders took part in the protest program.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that the attitude of the BJP was nothing but the murdering of democracy.
He alleged that the saffron party was trying to topple the Congress-led government in Rajasthan by buying Congress MLAs, and also by threatening them with CBI, income tax and ED raids.
He demanded that the Governor of Rajasthan convene an Assembly session on July 31, and added that there should be a discussion on the policies of the BJP, too, in the house.
He said that the Congress had organised nationwide protests on the issue, and would up the ante in the days to come.
The police later arrested Reddy, Vikramarka and other leaders when they came out of Gandhi Bhavan to go towards Raj Bhavan, and took them to the Begum Bazar police station.
