Cong Flip-Flop On T: Leader Quits
Bhongir Congress leader Jitta Balakrishna Reddy said that he was resigning after being disenchanted over the attitude of the Centre and the state over the T issue.
Upset by the Congress high command's flip-flop on the separate Telangana statehood issue, an exasperated Congress leader - from the Bhongir constituency in Nalgonda district - quit from his post and the party on Friday.
Briefing media persons, Bhongir Congress leader Jitta Balakrishna Reddy said that he was resigning after being disenchanted over the attitude of the Centre and the state government over the separate statehood issue. He said that he would be joining hands with Telangana protagonists who are actively struggling for a separate state.
Balakrishna Reddy pointed out that the electorate had, in the recently held Telangana by-elections, shown the door to many "leaders who had promised to fight for a separate Telangana state but were only working to climb up the political ladders".
He reminded that these "mass-leaders had bit the dust due to their not giving the Telangana issue the importance it deserves".
"Pradesh Congress Working Committee president D Srinivas, who did his best to convince the Telangana people to vote for him, failed in his attempts badly," Balakrishna Reddy recalled.
He further referred to the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Examinations (APPSC) Group-1 preliminary exams, and said that "despite several demonstrations and requests, the APPSC conducted the exams under the shadow of guns. This is nothing but discrimination against Telangana students."
