Congress leaders from Telangana today demanded action against leaders of the party who opposed the leadership of Gandhi family.
They said that the Gandhi family alone should head the party.
Addressing media persons in Hyderabad after the conclusion of the CWC meeting in New Delhi, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka along with MLC T Jeevan Reddy said that it was unfortunate that some senior party leaders had written a letter urging the CWC to appoint a non-Gandhi leader as the next party chief at a time when the ruling NDA government at the Centre was trying to destabilise the Congress-led governments in different states of the country.
They claimed that neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi were power hungry, and that they had both had fought against the NDA government on behalf of the people of the country. They also said that some leaders who enjoyed all kinds of posts during the party's rule were now opposing the leadership of the Gandhi family, and urged all the senior leaders of the party to stand by the Gandhi family. He asked all the party leaders to work hard for the unity of the party, and added that Rahul Gandhi should take up the mantle of the party.
Former minister and party MLA D Sridhar Babu demanded action against those leaders who opposed the Gandhi family's leadership.
Another Congress MLA T Jagga Reddy too said that only the Gandhi family was fit to lead the party at the national level, and that the Gandhi leadership was an asset to the party. He said that Sonia Gandhi had led the party despite her ill health, and was protecting its leaders at age 73. He claimed that the party would face problems if anybody other than the Gandhi family headed it.
