CM Angry With Electricity Staff For Power Cuts

Revanth Reddy warned that strict action would be initiated against the responsible officials if power outages were reported in the State.
Hyderabad | 22nd February 2024
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today warned that strict action would be initiated against the responsible officials if power outages were reported in the State.

During a meeting at the Secretariat, the CM said that the government was supplying adequate power to meet the energy demand, and that no official power cuts would be imposed by the government.

He said that the electricity supply had already been increased in the State from the past, and expressed his anger at the officials of the energy department over power outages in many places recently. He warned of strict action against such officers.

Reddy also said that it had come to his notice that some people were conspiring to bring a bad reputation to the government by spreading misinformation on power supply, and alerted the energy officials to counter the misinformation campaign.

He also said that he had gathered information about some field level staff appointed during the previous government deliberately imposing power cuts to bring a bad name to the government, and warned such staff.

"Action should be taken against anyone who deliberately causes power cuts, except for technical and natural reasons," Reddy said, and asked officials to investigate the reasons behind the power cut if the supply was interrupted for more than 5 minutes anywhere in the State.

Earlier during the meeting, TRANSCO and GENCO CMD Rizvi explained to the Chief Minister that power supply had increased in the last two months compared to that in the corresponding period last year.

He said that the supply was interrupted for some time in the limits of three sub-stations in the State recently. When the Chief Minister asked about the reasons for that, officials said that the DEs were supposed to monitor the load fluctuations in the sub-stations properly, and that the problem arose due to their failure to do so.

Reddy then ordered strict action against the officials and staff who discharged their duties carelessly. He also asked the officials to inform the consumers in the areas of the respective sub-stations in advance if the power supply was going to be suspended for any repairs or other maintenance issues.

Reddy also said that an action plan had already been prepared to supply power during the peak seasons of February, March and April when the demand for electricity would be high. 264.95 million units of electricity had been supplied per day from February 1 and 13 this year, compared to 242.44 million units last year, he said. Likewise, 243.12 million units were supplied in January this year as opposed to 230.54 million units last year, he said.
