Finance Minister Etela Rajender on Tuesday informed that the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Civil Supplies had suggested a hike in the monthly quota of rations through the Public Distribution System.
Speaking to media persons after chairing the Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting, Etela said that the Committee had recommended a hike in rice from 3 kg per head to 5 kg, and from 20 kg per family to 30 kg.
The Committee also discussed the norms to weed out the bogus ration cards.
Etela admitted that the statistics on the existing rations cards with the two relevant departments were not tallying.
He said that the Cabinet Sub-Committee would meet again next month before finalising its report to be submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Etela said that the implementation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee's recommendations would begin in November, and only the Chief Minister would decide on the issuing of new ration cards. (INN)
