The fares of the state-owned TSRTC's buses will soon go up.
The Chairman of the corporation Bajireddy Govardhan said that it had no option but to increase the fares.
He said that the corporation had sent proposals for hiking the fares to the CM K Chandrashekar Rao two months back, and that the file was still pending with the CM.
He said that the corporation had held a review meeting on the issue once again and had resent the proposal to the CM for his approval.
Reddy claimed that the corporation was sustaining heavy losses due to the steep increases in the retail prices of diesel. The union government had reduced the excise duty on diesel by a very low amount, and that would not help the corporation too much in defraying its losses, he said.
He however said that there would not be significant hikes in the fares of the Palle Velugu buses of the corporation. The corporation had proposed to hike the Palle Velugu bus fares by 25 paise per km, and the fares of the Express and other services of the corporation by 30 paise per km, he said.
