The Khammam police today arrested BJLP leader G Kishan Reddy when he tried to visit the Khammam mirchi market yard along with party workers.
Reddy reached Khammam on Thursday evening to visit the market yard in the context of the mirchi farmers' attack on the market yard on April 28, and stayed at a local hotel in the night. In the morning he tried to go to the market yard in a rally, but the police arrested him. The police shifted him to the Khammam Rural police station.
Khammam Rural DSP Ganesh said that they had detained him as a precautionary measure as a ban order was in force in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy alleged that both the Telugu states had failed to extend a helping hand to the mirchi farmers. He alleged that the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had not spent a single rupee for the sake of the mirchi farmers.
Stating that the Centre was paying Rs. 6,250 per quintal to the mirchi farmers, Reddy demanded that the State government pay Rs. 3,000 additionally to help them.
BJP Khammam district president Uday Prathap, Kondapally Sridhar Reddy, Kisan Morcha leader Gutha Venkateshwarlu, Dongala Sathyanarayana and other local leaders accompanied Kishan Reddy.
