The Telangana Auto Drivers JAC has decided to file a writ petition in the Hyderabad High Court challenging the RTA and police inaction against Uber and Ola Cabs indulging in "uneconomic competition" with autorickshaws.
The committee alleged that these cabs were collecting lesser rate per kilometer than autorickshaws. They were providing many free trips to passengers and also offering 33% concession in fares. Besides, they were openly advertising their offers. All of these were leading to the deterioration of the road transport system, and the RTA and police authorities were remaining silent spectators.
In a statement on Saturday, JAC convener Mohd Amanullah Khan stated that as per section 67 (d) of the M V Act, it was the responsibility of the State government to prevent "uneconomic competition" among the holders of permits such as autos and taxi cabs. For this purpose, different rates of fares had been fixed in respect of autos and different taxi cabs from time to time. If no action was taken against the illegal activities of these cabs, the transport industry was bound to turn into a "fish market" very soon, he said.
Therefore, they had decided to file a writ petition in the High Court against Uber's & Ola Cabs' irregularities, he disclosed.
The JAC also put off the proposed one-day auto bandh on November 30.

For the first time in Hyderabad, I see a clear seamless way for a citizen to travel anywhere knowing s/he will get a fair deal... the usual haggling is gone, security and identity of traveller and driver is known and monitored. This taxi cabwalla story is bakwas... I spoke to 12 drivers who are making much better money now than they were earlier....
