The Telangana Assembly turned into a battleground today as the BRS MLAs insisted on an adjournment motion related to the Formula E racing issue.
The BRS MLAs attended the Assembly wearing black badges and carrying placards. They raised slogans claiming that illegal cases were being registered against BRS working president K T Rama Rao for merely saying that the promises made by the ruling party were unfulfilled.
They also alleged that Congress MLA Veerlapalli Shankar had brandished a slipper at a BRS dalit MLA in the House, and demanded that an SC/ST case be registered against Shankar.
This led to chaos in the Assembly. BRS members rushed towards the Speaker's podium but were stopped by the marshals. A scuffle then broke out between the BRS and Congress members, with water bottles and papers being hurled at each other. Following this, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
After the House reconvened, Congress and BRS members traded allegations against each other about the fracas earlier. Congress MLAs accused Padi Kaushik Reddy of behaving in a manner that insulted the dalit community, and demanded an apology from Reddy.
Harish Rao said, "We will ensure the smooth conduct of the House only if a clear assurance is given for a discussion on the Formula E car racing issue." He also argued that since a case had been filed against KTR, a member of the House, KTR should be allowed an opportunity to present the truth.
Rao also called the case against KTR illegal.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar asserted that the discussion on the Bhu Bharathi Bill needed to be completed first, and that he would talk with the members after that. He said that it would be inappropriate to waste the House's time on a single member.
Congress MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy too said that the car racing issue was not a topic for discussion in the Assembly, and that the ACB had registered a case against KTR after the Governor's approval.
