The 2016-17 budget session of the Telangana Legislature Assembly is all set to begin in the second week of March.
This was stated by Legislature Affairs Minister T Harish Rao at the TRS Legislature Party office on Sunday.
The government was earlier contemplating holding the session in the first week of March, and it has been postponed by a week probably to pave the way for Andhra Pradesh conducting its own budget session on the same premises as the latter had decided to conduct its session in Hyderabad instead of in Vijayawada or Guntur as was being proposed earlier.
The minister said that this time around there would not be any sort of hullabaloo on power supply or on any other issue in the Assembly during the session as the government had overpowered the Opposition. The State government had also spent a lot of money to overcome the persistent power crisis besides foraying in a big way into producing power in the State, he said, blunting the potential for any attacks on the issue. He strongly felt that the Assembly session may not witness any ruckus or pandemonium due to this reason. The session would be conducted without any debates on the power sector, he stated.
The government had also taken precautionary measures to overcome the drinking water problem, which will also therefore not come up for a debate in the session, Rao said. The flagship programs like Mission Kakatiya, lake restoration and Mission Bhagiratha for supplying safe water to every household were being recognized at the national and even international levels, he claimed.
The budget for 2016-17 would be truthful and there would be no jugglery with numbers, he promised. It is being expected that the TRS government will come up with a whopping 1.54 lakh-crore budget for 2016-17. With need-based and factual allocations to all sectors based on priorities, this time the planned sector is to get more than Rs 60,000 crores.
