BRS working president K T Rama Rao today announced that his party would introduce a Private Member Bill in the State legislature to ensure the implementation of the Congress' six guarantees.
KTR said that despite Revanth Reddy approving the guarantees soon after assuming office and their mention in the Governor's address, there had been no progress even after 800 days.
He said that the BRS would seek permission from the Speaker and the Chairman of the Legislative Council to introduce the Bill during the current session.
"If the Congress is sincere, it should allow the Bill to be taken up and passed," he said.
Citing a precedent during the N T Rama Rao government, when such a Private Member Bill was approved, KTR urged the ruling Congress to follow suit.
He said that the proposed legislation would make welfare schemes promised by the Congress in its election campaign, including support for farmers, women, students and youth, legally binding, preventing the government from evading its commitments.
KTR added that the BRS would reach out to leaders across various political parties for support and also seek public feedback.
He called on citizens to pressure their MLAs to back the Bill, and said that the party would explore legal options if it was not passed.
