With the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana touching new highs every day, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar today requested Bharat Biotech Chairman and Managing Director Dr Krishna Ella to increase the supply of Covid-19 vaccine doses to the state.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Kumar held a meeting with Dr Ella at the BRKR Bhavan in Hyderabad, and reportedly informed him that the CM had decided to vaccinate the entire population against the deadly disease
free of cost, and requested the MD to ensure that the state received an adequate supply of vaccines for the purpose.
The CS requested the Bharat Biotech bigwig to prioritise Telangana's vaccine needs to enable the state to carry out its vaccination program.
Reports indicate that Dr Ella responded positively to the request, and assured Kumar that he would aim to provide a high number of vaccines to Telangana.
Principal Secretary (Industry) Jayesh Ranjan and Bharat Biotech Director Dr Sai Prasad also attended the meeting.
While Telangana has a total population of 4 crore people, 35 lakh people have already been vaccinated. The remaining people will be immunised for free. For this, the government will be spending Rs 2,500 crore.
