The recruitment process for these positions will prioritise former Village Revenue Officers (VROs) and Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs).

In a move aimed at bolstering local governance and providing employment opportunities, the Telangana government today approved the creation of 10,954 Grama Palana Officer (GPO) positions within the revenue department.
The official orders for the creation of these posts were issued after a high-level meeting led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The positions have been introduced to enhance grassroots administration across Telangana's 10,954 revenue villages. These officers will play a pivotal role in managing revenue-related matters, ensuring effective implementation of government schemes and addressing local issues promptly.
The recruitment process for these positions will prioritise former Village Revenue Officers (VROs) and Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs), acknowledging their experience and service. This initiative not only aims to utilize their expertise but also provides them with stable employment opportunities within the government framework.
In September 2020, the Telangana government had abolished the VRO system as part of comprehensive revenue reforms. Subsequently, in July 2023, the State had also dissolved the VRA system, absorbing eligible VRAs into various government departments to streamline administrative processes.
The introduction of GPOs reportedly then marks a strategic shift to ensure dedicated revenue officials at the village level, thereby enhancing the efficiency of local governance. The initiative is also seen as part of the Telangana government's ongoing efforts to create employment opportunities while also strengthening public administration.
