Slamming the TRS' agriculture policy, Telangana TDP politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy claimed that agriculture was in a decline since the last three years in the Telangana.
"Though the State government claimed that there would be no drought in the State for three to four years due to heavy rainfall and Mission Kakatiya, agricultural produce has come down," Ravula claimed.
Some 49 lakh hectares of lands were irrigated in 2013-14, which came down to 43 lakh hectares in 2014-15, with a loss of six lakh acres to irrigation, the TDP leader alleged.
He also alleged that the TRS government failed to provide subsidy to farmers even as the Union government released Rs. 791 crores for the purpose. By adding Rs 120 crore share, the government should have helped farmers by providing subsidy, he said. 2,650 farmers in the State had committed suicide due to this, he alleged.
As the Assembly session was beginning from Friday, the government should initiate a debate on the situation of farmers, instead of trying to suppress the Opposition, he demanded.
