Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao on Tuesday blamed the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9, 2009, for the present crisis prevailing in the state.
Talking to media persons at the Assembly media point, Uma Maheswara Rao said that All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee are to be held responsible for the crisis in the state on account of the Telangana statehood demand.
"If Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had not made an announcement on Telangana on December 9, 2009, the crisis would not have risen at all," the TDP leader opined. He added that the announcement made by Chidambaram had divided the people of the state on regional lines.
Uma Maheswara Rao also condemned the Centre for making diverse statements on Telangana and Seemandhra, and confusing the people by adjourning the 2nd all-party meeting conclave after the submission of the Srikrishna Committee Report.
He asked the Seemandhra Congress MPs to make their stand clear on an integrated Andhra Pradesh to the Centre, as it had already stated that it would take a concrete decision on the contentious bifurcation demand once the results of the elections to Assemblies in 5 states are out in June.
Reacting on the Telangana TDP MLAs' demand for separate statehood, the Seemandhra MLA stated that the elected representatives would have to fulfil the aspirations of people of the region.
