Hundreds of Telangana activists on Monday stormed into the office of Emaar Properties in Manikonda, and ransacked the furniture there.
Nearly 300 activists of the Telangana United Front went to the office of Emaar Properties in the afternoon, demanding that the state government return the land that it had acquired from farmers for the construction of villas and high-end apartments in the Emaar-MGF project.
The activists, led by TUF president Vimalakka, were at the Emaar office for several hours.
After damaging the furniture in the office premises, the activists climbed on the roof-top of the 5-storey building and threatened suicide in case the police tried to arrest them.
The activists alleged that the state government had acquired land from poor Telangana farmers at low rates, and that the land was then given to the rich and elite.
The TUF stated that land acquired from Telangana peasants, for such projects, would be returned to their rightful owners after the formation of a Telangana State. (INN)
