TDP Should State When Loans Will Be Waived: YSRCP

Demanding that the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh categorically announce when the farm and DWACRA loans will be waved totally, the YSR Congress Party said that there was a good response to its 3-day protest program in all the 13 districts of the State.

"The TDP government should categorically declare when the loan waiver for farmers will come into force. The Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has tried to redefine who a farmer is with a mala fide intention to escape from the loan waiver scheme, by stating that only farmers having loans of upto Rs 1.5 lakh are real farmers, and anyone having debt in excess of that is a fraudster. This seems to be an escape route to evade the poll promise," party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told reporters on Friday.

The State government is jittery at the response to the dharna program the YSR Congress had taken up, and TDP leaders were issuing incoherent and irrelevant statements, she stated.

"We demand that the TDP government waive off the Rs. 14,000 crore loans of women groups, and clearly state when the farm loan waiver will come into force, instead of issuing worthless statements, as agriculture operations for the Kharif season are on. Bankers are denying fresh loans, documents and gold ornaments are pawned with banks, and no word of assurance is coming from the State, resulting in farmers and women getting into distress and becoming vulnerable to moneylenders," she said.

"The State has to come to the rescue of the farmers, and we are playing the role of a constructive opposition by highlighting the failures of the TDP government," she said, adding that TDP leaders were trying to gag the opposition party with their false statements, and that their failure in waiving the loans was hitting the agriculture sector in the State seriously.
