A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs delegation on Tuesday pressed Union Law Minister and Andhra Pradesh in-charge of Congress affairs M Veerappa Moily to look into the demands of a separate High Court bench between Vijayawada and Guntur districts.
The TDP MPs delegation, under the leadership of MP Venu Gopal, pointed out to Moily that the demand had virtually paralysed the courts with lawyers resorting to strikes for fulfillment of their demands. The MPs delegation met Moily in his chambers.
The MPs delegation urged the Union Law Minister to consider their demand favourably and take necessary steps in that direction.
The Union Law Minister assured the delegation that he would look into the demand after discussing it with concerned judges in the High Court and the Supreme Court.
The lawyers have been agitating since 2 months demanding the establishment of a High Court bench for non-Telangana region, and have abstained from duties in Guntur, Vijayawada and West Godavari districts.
On Monday, the agitating lawyers had
urged TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to help them in their fight for a separate High Court bench.
