Talasani Resigns As MLA To Take Oath As Minister

About an hour before taking oath as a minister in the Telangana Cabinet, Talasani Srinivas Yadav resigned from his post as Sanathnagar MLA.
Hyderabad | 16th December 2014
About an hour before taking oath as a minister in the Telangana Cabinet, Talasani Srinivas Yadav resigned from his post as Sanathnagar MLA.

Talasani, who was elected on a TDP ticket from the Sanathnagar Assembly constituency in the 2014 elections, announced that he had sent his resignation letter to Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.

He also resigned from the primary membership of the Telugu Desam Party and faxed the letter to the Party office.

Speaking to media persons later, Talasani said that he would face the consequent by-election and get elected on a TRS ticket from the Sanathnagar Assembly constituency.

He thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for inducting him into his Cabinet, and vowed to work hard to strengthen the TRS in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Born on October 6, 1965, Yadav began his political career in 1986 by contesting the municipal elections for the corporator's seat from Monda Market. He got elected as an MLA from the Secunderabad Assembly constituency in 1994. He got re-elected in 1999, and also served as a minister in the cabinet of Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He held the portfolios of Labour, Tourism, Culture and Archaeology.

He lost the 2004 elections, but made a comeback in the by-elections held in 2008. But he could not retain the seat in the general elections held in 2009.

In the 2014 elections he contested and won from the Sanathnagar Assembly constituency on a TDP ticket.

He was reportedly upset with the TDP leadership after being passed over for the post of the TDP floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. The differences deepened to the extent that he decided to quit the TDP to join the TRS. Finally, on October 29, he, along with MLA Teegala Krishna Reddy, joined the TRS.

Talasani's resignation from the MLA's post was necessary to avoid his getting disqualified under the Anti-Defection Law. Therefore, in order to avoid both the criticism from Opposition Parties and the looming disqualification, he resigned from the post of MLA to become a minister in KCR's Cabinet. (INN)
