At 1 pm on March 21, a housewife and her daughter courageously faced two armed robbers from Kanpur and made them flee.
The incident occurred under the Begumpet police limits.
According to the police, two persons named Sushil Kumar and Premchandra from Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh made a bid to rob a family in Begumpet.
As part of their plan, Sushil called Amita Mahnot (the house owner) and informed her that they had come to deliver a couriered package in the name of N K Jain.
Mahnot's servant went to receive the courier. The duo, who had their faces covered, then entered the house forcibly to rob it.
Premchandra entered the kitchen and threatened the maid servant with a knife on her throat. A brawl then took place between the daughter of Amita (Bhavi) and Sushil. A shocked Amita also interfered in a bid to thwart the robbery attempt. During the brawl, Sushil took out a country-made tapancha (pistol) from his bag and tried to point it at the mother and the daughter.
However, Amita, a Taekwondo practitioner, kicked Sushil and snatched the tapancha from his hands.
Upon receiving blows and kicks from the mother-daughter duo, Sushil managed to flee the house. He was however captured by the Railway Police.
However, Premchandra was not aware of the developments outside. Meanwhile, residents of the surrounding houses who heard the hue and cry from the house came in, and managed to catch hold of him.
The police seized ropes, a tapancha, a rubber bullet shell, two knives and a gift paper box.
Sushil Kumar and Premchandra were both arrested and sent to judicial remand.
