In a setback to the Telangana government, the Supreme Court today quashed a Special Leave Petition challenging the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal verdict.
Representing TRS government, noted Advocate Vaidyanathan argued that the tribunal's verdict caused huge loss to Telangana. He also said that the tribunal turned down Section 89 that was incorporated in the Act for project-wise allocation of water, stating that it was not the court's priority.
The advocate pleaded with the apex court to ensure fair distribution of river waters to the four States including Karnataka, Maharashtra and the two Telugu States. However, Karnataka and Maharashtra opposed, based on which the court quashed the SLP stating that the two States should settle the row under Section 84 and the apex council recommendations.
