Leaders of student unions on Saturday attempted to lay siege to the residence of Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, demanding cancellation of the 2024 NEET exam.
The leaders, including those of NSUI, SFI, AISF, PDSU, PYC, DYFI, AIYF, PYL, VJS and YJS, sought an appointment with the minister, but were denied one. Expressing anger at the decision, they attempted to lay siege to his residence.
The police however succeeded in preventing them, and the leaders were detained and shifted to the Nallakunta police station.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress MLC Venkat Narsing Rao Balmoor, who also took part in the protest, urged Kishan Reddy to bring their demands regarding the NEET paper leak to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The union government should immediately cancel the NEET exam and conduct it again. At the same time, the Centre should have an inquiry by a Supreme Court sitting judge into the paper leak," the Congress MLC said.
He also demanded an apology from the Union government to the 24 lakh students who wrote the exam, for failing to conduct it effectively.
"Our struggle will continue until justice is done to the students, and the NEET is cancelled and re-conducted," Balmoor Venkat said.
