Corporators belonging to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Monday warned the government that they would launch a fast-unto-death if it did not install statutes of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, NT Rama Rao and Jyoti Rao Bhule within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.
The TDP's demand comes in the wake of a statue of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy being installed in the office premises at Tank Bund.
TDP Floor Leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy stated that the decision to launch a hunger strike from November 24th at Secretariat was taken in a meeting on the issue held at the city party office at Tank Bund on Monday. Party state general secretary Varla Ramaiah presided over the meeting.
Srinivas Reddy said that all the 45 corporators would meet Chief Minister K Rosaiah and urge him to install the statues. If Rosaiah did not agree to their demand, they would go on the hunger-strike, he stated.
The TDP leader also said that the party had earlier expressed this demand to Hyderabad Mayor Karthika Chandra Reddy, but she had put it in cold storage.
