With the government agreeing to their various demands, Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers, Workers and Pensioners and other staff of the state government on Sunday called off their 3-day pen-down strike launched on Wednesday.
Earlier, talking to media persons at the C Block in secretariat, Minister For Finance Anam Ram Narayana Reddy on Sunday stated that the talks between the government and employees' representatives were fruitful, and the strike was called off after Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy assured the striking employees that the government would look into their long-pending demands favourably.
He said the government's agreeing to the employees' demand according to the recommendations of the PRC would add an additional burden of about Rs. 550 on the state exchequer.
He said the CM had agreed to increase the gratuity limit of employees from Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 8 lakhs, assured to fill vacant posts in a phased manner, promised medical services to employees provided under Arogyasri schemes, increased the HRA to 2%, agreed to scrap apprenticeship for teachers and regularization of temporary employees in Panchayati Raj department.
He said the cabinet sub-committee had sought some more time to solve their other demands.
