The State Election Commission, on Monday, announced the schedule for the fourth ordinary elecitons to Zilla Parishad Territorial Constiutuencies (ZPTCs) and to Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs).
Addressing a press conference, State Election Commissioner P Ramakanth Reddy said that the elections were being conducted on the directions of the Supreme Court. The filings of nominations will begin on March 17 for both the ZPTC and the MPTCs, while March 20 will be the last day for filing nominations.
The nominations will be scrutinised on March 21, and appeals can be filed against the rejection of nominations on March 22.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be March 24 and the publication of the list of contesting candidates will take place on the same day.
The polling will be held in one phase on April 6. Re-polling, if required, will be conducted on April 7.
The counting of votes will take place on March 8, and the results will be declared soon after the completion of the counting of votes.
Elections will be held for 1096 ZPTCs in 22 Zilla Praja Parishads, and for 16,589 MPTCs in 1096 Mandal Praja Parishads.
The SEC said that about 1.35 lakh ballot boxes will be used for the elections. He said the shortage of about 15,000 boxes was being met by taking help from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The tentative expenditure resulting from the elections will be Rs. 141.58 crore. (INN)
