Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao directed the officials concerned to enhance the speed limit of vehicles travelling on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to 120 km per hour.
The 158-kilometre ORR is an eight-lane access-controlled freeway with four lanes on each side. Right now, the maximum speed limit on the first two lanes is 100 kmph, and on the third and fourth lanes it is 80 kmph.
In a review meeting with HMDA officials today, Rao revised the existing speed limit and directed the officials to enhance the speed limit to 120 kmph on the first two lanes.
Special Chief Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Arvind Kumar said on Twitter that the minister had also instructed the officials to ensure that all safety protocols were in place for the new speed limit.
