Unidentified thieves managed to get away with around Rs. 4 lakh in cash after they broke into a snuff shop at Chatta Bazaar between the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
According to Mirchowk police, the thieves broke into SR Cards And Printers by breaking the wooden shutters, and then dug a hole into CG Mudaliar Snuff shop.
The two shops are on the main road close to the old Commissioner Office and the City Civil Courts. Police are amazed at the audacity of the thieves, who managed to break into the shops located on one of the busiest roads in the city.
The snuff shop is one of the oldest shops in town, established in 1895, and has been selling cigars, cigarettes, cheroots, bidis and snuff since the past 115 years.
Police believe that the thieves were well-acquainted with the layout of the snuff shop since they did not target the shop's steel shutter but broke into the shop through the adjoining shop. Another interesting factor is that the thieves knew that the adjoining wall between the two shops was made of mud.
